Web3: Wild West of the Internet
Let’s be honest: Web3 feels like the wild West, and more often than not, it feels like we’re in for a wild ride.
But don't get left behind; Web3 is the future of the internet, and this is the year to jump on board.
🕸️ But what is Web3 exactly?
Web3 is the third generation of the World Wide Web, which includes technologies like blockchain and peer-to-peer networks that don't have a central server. It is made to be more open, clear, and safe than earlier versions of the web.
I recommend you take a few minutes to understand the history of the internet to get a fuller picture of how Web3 is shaping the future of the internet.
Web3 represents a historic opportunity for those who want to thrive in the ever-changing world of business and technology. But with so many new concepts and technologies to wrap your head around, it can be overwhelming to know where to start.
You will come across the words Blockchain, Metaverse, NFTs, DAOs, Smart Contracts and DeFi (to name a few). These acronyms may not mean anything today, but if you stick around, you will get up to speed in no time.
🌊 Making waves and creating opportunities
These are exciting times to be curious. We’re on the cusp of a new technological wave that has the potential to open huge opportunities for those that are prepared and open to change.
Today, I see Web3 as a powerful equaliser, creating opportunities for all to learn, grow, and lead innovative technological solutions.
🚀A marketer’s perspective on Web3
As a digital marketer, I’ve worked with many brands and successfully driven new business for them. I’ve used Google, Meta, and affiliate channels to drive traffic and get results. But I have also seen the shortcomings.
Our dependence on Google and Meta has created a world owned by a handful of companies. Ten years ago, these platforms changed the world of marketing and advertising, and we’ve reaped the benefits in so many ways.
Today, I feel like we can do better.
🧐 How can digital marketing be done differently?
🧐 How can we reduce our reliance on Google and Meta?
🧐 What will a cookie-less world look like, one where we do not accept being tracked online?
🧐 How can we reward the people who produce the content based on the value they provide without being dependent on an algorithm?
🧐 How could brands directly reward customers for their loyalty and continued business?
These are some of the premises that Web3 looks to achieve, and as a digital marketer, these are the premises that I am most excited about.
